About Ochuko

I’m Ochuko, the owner of Thriving Place Counselling & Psychotherapy, and I am dedicated to helping individuals, couples, and families build resilience and achieve emotional well-being. Originally from Nigeria, I moved to Canada in 2011, where my personal journey of navigating transitions and overcoming challenges inspired my path into therapy. My diverse background in Clinical Social Work, Public Health, and Medicine informs my holistic approach to supporting clients, allowing me to offer a compassionate, culturally sensitive space for healing.

Credentials & Expertise

I am a licensed therapist, holding professional memberships with the Alberta College of Social Workers and the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. My clinical expertise is enhanced by my knowledge of public health and medicine, ensuring a comprehensive, personalized approach to every client’s unique journey. I integrate evidence-based techniques with a deep understanding of the emotional, mental, and physical aspects of well-being.

Therapeutic Approach

I believe in creating a client-centered, compassionate space for healing and growth. My approach is grounded in empathy, cultural sensitivity, and collaboration. I draw from a range of evidence-based techniques, including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and the Gottman Method for couples. These methods allow me to help you address challenges such as trauma, stress, anxiety, depression, grief, low self esteem, relationship struggles, and life transitions. Each session is tailored to your needs, empowering you to build lasting change and resilience.

For couples, I use the Gottman Method to improve communication, deepen emotional connection, and navigate conflicts, ultimately strengthening your relationship.

Why I Do This Work

My passion for therapy comes from my own life experiences, having faced my own challenges and witnessed the resilience of those I’ve supported. I understand how complex life can be, and I am committed to helping you overcome your struggles and achieve meaningful, lasting growth. I am honoured to accompany my clients on their path to healing and transformation.

Outside of Therapy

When I’m not working, I enjoy spending quality time with my family and friends, gardening, and continually expanding my knowledge of mental health and wellness through ongoing learning.
